Big Josh + Little K’Von

You are here: Home Impact Real-Life Match Stories Big Josh + Little K’Von

When K’von found out he was going to have a Big Brother in 2016, he was so excited that he continually texted his Big Brother Josh from his mother’s phone – texts so precious that Josh saved them. His mother enrolled him in Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami because she knew the impact it could have—her older daughter received a scholarship from BBBSM. Since then their relationship blossomed. From teaching him to swim, to getting to interact with dolphins in the Keys, they’ve had a blast. Josh, who’s been a Big Brother three times, has even showed his 15-year-old son the importance of mentoring.

Josh sees his role as K’von’s Big Brother is to provide him with additional fun experiences and opportunities on top of what his mother already provides. Through their friendship, K’von has been exposed to many diverse people and new ideas.

Little Brother K’von continues to grow exponentially in confidence and regularly looks forward to spending time with his Big Brother. While K’von has had to move around a lot, Big Brother Josh continues to be the strong male role model K’von’s mother wanted for him.

The two continue to have a strong bond, and Big Brother Josh adds, “I truly believe that the best way to help yourself is to help someone else, and the purpose of life is a life of purpose.”
