In collaboration with Take Stock in Children, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami’s Continuing Education program is committed to giving Littles tools for a lifetime of success by providing a comprehensive range of services.

Supported by BBBSM’s Continuing Education staff, the program outlines carefully structured goals for high school students and includes guidance related to:

  • Preparing students for standardized testing
  • College applications and enrollment
  • Finances in higher education
  • Post-secondary scholarship awards
  • Career development

In addition, all high school-aged Littles, their Bigs, and parents are invited to regular college-readiness programming throughout the school year. Once enrolled in college, BBBSM is committed to the success of our students by providing further support services to make sure students graduate college and get on track for their careers.

Thanks to our generous donors, the Continuing Education program provides over $3 million in scholarship money every year to our local youth who have shown the determination to invest in their future. With the combined efforts of our Five Millers Continuing Education Program and Take Stock in Children, an average of 250 high seniors a year receive between $500-$20,000 in scholarship money for post-secondary education, and many recipients are the first in their family to attend college. Five Millers Continuing Education &
Scholarship Program

In 2008, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami, together with the Five Millers Foundation, established the Continuing Education & Scholarship Program.

This program provides:

  • Scholarship funding to graduating Littles who successfully complete the program and commit to furthering their education
  • Specialized tools for identifying, accessing, and creating a full range of financial aid and scholarship opportunities – these include colleges and universities, public agencies, private sources, and the corporate sector
  • Training, workshops, and coaching sessions to youth and their families as they pursue higher education

All students enrolled in BBBSM are eligible to apply for the Five Millers Scholarship program. Scholarships are awarded to those who have been accepted in vocational or technical programs, two-year colleges, and four-year universities. Scholarship winners are selected by an Advisory Council comprised of community business leaders and other supporters of BBBSM.

Lori Brener Scholarship Fund

Like the Five Millers Scholarship, the Lori Brener Scholarship is open to all Littles who graduated from any of the BBBSM programs. Scholarships are awarded to those who have been accepted in vocational or technical programs, two-year colleges, or four-year universities, and who have overcome a major obstacle to get where they are today. Preference is given to those whose Big helped them overcome that obstacle, emphasizing the importance of the BBBSM programs. Scholarship winners are selected by an Advisory Council comprised of community business leaders and other supporters of BBBSM.
